The article talks about how “she” in the past didn’t really think she could teach well. Ut after meeting with a fellow teacher it seems as she has decided to work out of her normal range, to ty and better herself as teacher. “Lasting change in teacher practice is difficult because it expects that teachers challenge and reconstruct deeply embedded practices and beliefs (Borko & Putnam, 1996; Pennington, 2005). For Grace, a third-grade teacher, practitioner research with the Triad Teacher Researchers (TTR) provided a space for her to change beliefs and practices about being a teacher” (Vetter, 2012). Teachers I think can teach if they feel they have the support of fellow administration or teachers.…

Elementary school is the cornerstone of a child’s development. Elementary school is where a child starts to understand the concepts of responsibility, determination, and success which manifest themselves in the guise of the end of year report card. The articles written by Erica Ehm and Cayla Hochberg convey two opposing sides of the recent TDSB union disputes. These articles are in disagreement about who is responsible for the lack of report cards given out to the children. I find the latter article by Cayla Hochberg to be the most convincing.…

My zeal for undertaking the Modular Master’s Degree program at Arcadia University is to develop my skills and expand my knowledge of educating children in preparation for a career as an educator. My interest in teaching began four years ago after completing my undergraduate degree in Public Health and has since developed after my first motherhood experience. My commitment to pursuing a career as an educator was established during my maternity leave, where I had time to reflect on going back to school. I was mostly inspired by my family’s ardor for education and by the encouragement of the executive director at my job who wishes to mentor me into the leadership world of Early Childhood…

VanNess starts one of her first writing lessons by telling her students a secret and that secret is that “kindergarteners can write!” (574) When she tells her students they can write, she sees faces light up all around her. VanNess starts out the lessons with something simple and gives some examples of ways to use the word I. She models with the students and once they start to get comfortable with the word she releases them to do it on their own.…

Really, this deals with just about everyone who grew up in the United States because most people have had some type of experience with the education systems. Whether it was being in school before, being in school now, teaching school, or being an administrator, most people have had some experience with education. Throughout the article Moore talks about his past and his experiences. That left this article very vulnerable to extreme bias. Mr. Butch, I am going to be completely blunt with you, and I hope you don't take it the wrong way. I have heard comments about "some families in our area just don;t value education" and "we provide a good education for those who take advantage of it" for years, and it gets me twisted to no end. We have other local districts, with similar demographics and socioeconomics, but seem to consistently outperform Octorara. Pequea Valley HS is a perfect example of a school that has a similar population but has maintained or improved performance. In my opinon, pointing the finger and parents and students is playing the blame game and does nothing but make struggling students feel less than.…
