Greed In Into The Woods

Decent Essays
Identify a theme in the play and discuss its expression onstage in the performance and how it’s supported by symbolism or dialogue.

Into the woods consistently displayed the theme of greed. Many of the characters made a sacrifice for something they wanted and victimized someone in the process. For example, the witch wanted more than anything to look young again, she sacrificed her powers over others to look that way. The evil step-sisters also were very greedy, they cut up their feet just for a chance to fit in the shoe and marry the prince. Despite their efforts they didn’t fool the prince and went through excruciating pain for nothing. Another theme all of the characters of Into the Woods displayed was desperation. Desperation was displayed

On the evening of Saturday October 8th, the cast of the play Fuddy Meers took the stage and put on a unique and exquisite performance. The play took place in the Temple Theatre which I found was a highly interesting venue. There were several different elements that I found greatly intriguing during the course of the ninety minute performance, however, there were a few elements that I felt were also lacking. The first element that I believed helped to add significance to the performance was the stage setup(1). The revolving setup of the stage was perfect for this play and it allowed much versatility for the characters during specific instances.…

    Laramie Play Analysis

The most notable themes to me are homosexuality, religion, and also class or in other words social structure. The play itself is structured into three acts. The first act is comprised of interviews with townspeople and longtime residents. These interviews are meant to set a tone for the town of Laramie, showing how people saw their town before the murder, and how they now feel after the horrific event happened epically when it came to light that it wasn’t some out of towners who were just passing through but actually to people who grew up in it. It made them feel much closer to the crime personally then it would have if the killers didn’t have any connection to the town.…

Dragons are found in a symbolic aspect in Star Wars as were found in the Hobbit. Anakin Skywalker and the Emperor are our metaphorical dragons in this case. In many stories, the character of a dragon usually serves as a metaphor for greed; this is very apparent in the Hobbit through Smaug but is evident in Star Wars as well. In Star Wars, the dragon is the dark side: primarily, Anakin and the Emperor.…

Theater Response 1.Going into the theater, I was expecting a fairly accurate performance directly scripted from the essays. When I realized that the college level performers loosely used the stories from the book in order to inspire their piece, I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed how the actors and actresses made their performance uniquely about them and how their stories relate to those of “Reluctant Citizens” and “The Lonely Death of George Bell”. Watching and listening to each of the performers’ experiences and interpretations kept the audience much more attentive and pondering the themes of the stories compared to if they only performed from the text.…

Catherine’s father, Robert was a genius mathematician who contributed greatly to his field of study as a young man. Overtime, Robert gradually begins to lose his sanity, resulting in Catherine’s withdrawal from college so she could care for her him. As stated by Julian Casablancas, “greed is the inventor of injustice as well as the current enforcer.” This quote is a great reflection of the book No Country for Old Men because of the conflict that occurs between the characters over the greed of money. But the money that the characters deal with is no piggy bank and it would make any man drool over its presence because the bag of cash has millions of dollars in it. One of the characters, Llewelyn Moss comes across this bag and risks his wife’s life and even his own in order to protect it. One of the main themes that is displayed in the novel is greed; in first world countries, it is normal for people to own a lot of things because it is advertised through media and even through each other.…

The musical Into the Woods, by Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and James Lapine (book) is a compilation of fairytales with a unique twist of life’s hard lessons after getting what you “wished” for. The play’s main story line is composed of well-known fairytales such as: Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Jack and the bean stock. These fairytales are all intertwined in order to help the protagonist (the baker) collect all the ingredients the witch has asked for in order for him and his wife to have a baby. The play is a metaphor for the different paths a person may take when opportunities unfold.…
