Introduction

Variables exist in experiments and can be linked together in the form of an equation. Some equations have constants that link the variables together in a sort of relationship. Gravity is considered a constant in many formulae including equations of kinematics and projectiles.

In this experiment, the simple pendulum apparatus can be used investigate the relationship between the time period and the length of the pendulum, with a constant value including the value of gravity. This is apparent in the following formula; 푇=2휋√퐿푔

T – Time period; time taken to complete one oscillation

L – Length of string

Therefore, this apparatus and equation can be used to find out the value of gravity by varying the length of the pendulum and

One rope was attached to the top of a metal rod laid on a table and secured with a tape and a bob was tied to the end.

3. The same angle should was measured from both sides. A small angle observed was 10°.

4. The positions were marked to start from same point every time, for every repeat.

5. The pendulum was suspended and a stopwatch was used to measure the time taken to complete 10 oscillations.

6. The steps above were repeated for different rope/string length.

7. The results were recorded.

* Eating and drinking should be prohibited in the lab at any costs.

* Everyone should be responsible to ensure that the personal protective equipment is worn at all times. These include goggles, lab coat, gloves and safety shoes.

* The lab should be well ventilated to ensure a safe work environment.
