Grand Central Station Research Paper

Yesterday I visited Grand Central Station- or I should say terminal, the famous station as changed its names many times throughout the last hundred years. Grand Central’s birth was from a tragedy and underwent many changes from presidents, to abandoned tracks to restaurants, to rebuilding this station is an American Icon.

The chief engineer was William J Wilgus and build two version of the terminal before the third and final station designed by Reed and Stem and Warren and Wetmore had been the terminal’s final design. The station is over 170,000 square feet with new and improved retail space. There was slow a cluttered version in the 1970’s was amazing as well as the 1913 version.

The birth of Grand Central Station was considered a tragedy, as the soot and the smog was polluting the air quality. As the air quality was poor, so the train station moved completely underground, resulting into business in downtown Manhattan in 1902. Enough about how Grand Central began, what’s interesting is that it took part of the second World War II. In 1942 more than forty percent of the population was using Grand Central and Hitler planned to destroy it. During the war millions of service millions passed through Grand Central, so many that the government had opened a separate branch of the USO inside the station. So it would make sense for Hitler, one of the many Axis powers to destroy America from its roots.

Washington Street Bridge The Washington Street bridge, completed in 1921, was dedicated to the “the sons of Delaware who joined forces of their country in The Great War” on Memorial Day, 1922. The 250 foot, open spandrel arch bridge serves as a lasting and rare example of monumental architecture in Delaware. At the time of its completion it was considered the longest bridge of its kind in the Nation. Not only monumental in scale, the bridge serves as a memorial to those who have served in the military. Bronze tablets on the eight main pylons commemorate Delawareans whom served the Nation in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, The Civil War, and the Spanish-American War.…

My Artist’s Statement on Eric Edward Esper work, the 1977 CTA EL Train derailment the crash killed about 12 people and injured over 180 in that area of Chicago. In the painting I was looking at many people that were being oblivious to their surroundings. Therefore there were more causalities because they were not paying attention the streets and sidewalks still had snow on them, and in the scenery the cars are going the opposite direction from the crash. A closer look at the painting and you can spot the frantic people looking or trying desperately to get out of the train. “The Loop” not only refers to Chicago's central business district, but also a rectangular pattern formed by the city's elevated trains.…

Imagine a plane thirty-six thousand feet in the air about to land in the city of Denver, Colorado. The plane circles the Denver International Airport and the passengers look down at the interestingly shaped runways as the plane is cleared to land. After the smooth landing, the passengers exit the plane to gather their luggage and go about their business in the city. Taking note of the artistic murals on the walls as they walk, passengers move along in a hurry to get where they are going, as they do in any international airport. As passengers leave the airport in their Ubers or taxis, they look out the window to see the big blue statue of a mustang just outside of the airport.…

The Terminal This 2004 film directed by the popular and influential director, Steven Spielberg is possibly one of my favourite movies of all time. ‘The Terminal’ is a comedy-drama movie that is partially inspired by the 18-year-stay of Mehran Karimi Nasseri in Terminal 1 of Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris, France. It tells the story of Viktor Navorski (Tom Hanks), a traveller from Krakozhia. Due to certain circumstances, he became stateless and was unable to set foot in New York City. By order of Frank Dixon (Stanley Tucci) the Director of Customs and Border Protection at the airport, Viktor was only allowed to stay inside the Terminal of JFK airport.…
