Graffiti can be really expensive to clean up. According to Internal Journal of Offender and Comparative Criminology, gangs use graffiti for many reasons: “Gangs use graffiti to communicate messages that all members understand, to identify specific individuals, and to mark territory, Further, graffiti is employed to display gang existence, relationships, and the street identity of gang members” (Brown, 46-48). As you can see, graffiti is used as a tool by gangs to state their existence in a community. So wherever there is graffiti, you can be sure to find gang activity lurking around every corner. As you can see taggers are destroying the great outdoors with their offensive and inappropriate graffiti markings. People who go to visit State Parks go to take a look at nature in its greatest form, they go to get away from the city and take in the fresh air, but instead still have to face the ugliness that graffiti portrays.
