Grace Grace is a big beautiful all encompassing word, but it doesn’t always have to be a gift from God. Some would argue that grace is so deeply rooted in Christianity that there is no other type of grace to have. While faith is a Segway to obtaining spiritual grace, anyone can have it, religious or not. Grace is so much more than what is read in the Bible. There are many ways that one can elude a sense of grace. At the VQ-3 Iron Man Squadron the skipper has set three simple rules; do your best, do the right thing, and win as a team. Grace is being humble, and never too proud. Families all over the world say grace to whichever deity they choose before eating a meal. These people put their pride aside and say “thank you” just for having a meal to eat. While that is religious, it’s also showing humility. Simply saying “thank you,” is being gracious. Humility is grace. Grace is a behavior, trait, and attitude worth working toward. “Being graceful, or adopting a graceful attitude, is about both dealing with anything life can and will throw at you, and dealing with it with the best tools available to you: kindness to yourself and to others, taking time to be conscious and in the moment, being aware of the good in your life, and choosing to act with that in mind.” (Haigh) Kindness is grace. Grace is choosing not to gossip about another girl, even when everyone else is. It’s showing up to work after working seventy hours and having enough foresight to keep a positive attitude for your co-workers sake. Grace is a football team who leaves the field with their heads held high and their chins up, even after they lost. Grace is a struggling man who sets his pride aside and asks for help when he needs it. Grace is the choice between forgiveness and resentment, but choosing forgiveness every time.
