When we look at what discrimination entails it is hence not a very negative thing as the media has made many to believe ("What is Discrimination? - FindLaw", 2017). The law similarly is compelled to discriminate in order to maintain civility among its citizens. The government is hence compelled to discriminate against some groups, as it needs a criterion for determining how to enforce justice. The government can for instance discriminate on the following groups; groups that are likely to be subject to be suspects. Suspect classification can be based on national origin, race, religion, and even citizenship of certain people. People may be classified according to quasi-suspect classification and lastly the authorities may have non-suspect classifications, which distinguish people according to their age, their wealth status, political affiliations, and the preference that the people have towards the politics ("What is Discrimination? - FindLaw", 2017). This is a type of classification that is founded on the above named classes, if there is a different context, which requires people to have the same level of treatment the law is required to use intermediate scrutiny and assess if the government is directly impacted (US Legal, 2017). In the case that the court will have be directly impacted then the law and the court uses a rational method to determine if the government would be directly impacted and if it will not be directly impacted (US Legal, 2017). Real life examples of how the law gives some people quasi suspect treatment is an instance where a woman is given some form of maintenance by the husband in case of a divorce, or the woman being paid for child support when the two separate. Another example that a law will encourage preferential treatment is when the government states that all males should be drafted in the military.
