The first source that I read was a Wikipedia page created by several people who had gathered information about Gothic Cathedrals. There was no specific date when this Wikipedia page was created. The point of view from this source gives the reader the impression that the Dark Ages weren’t too “dark”. This point of view is shown through the quote, “Common features of gothic cathedrals included architectural innovations, including: large columns, high ceilings with ribbed vaults, flying buttresses, and large stained glass windows”. This quote gives the reader the idea that Gothic Cathedrals were very nicely built and majestic. They had flying buttresses and stained glass windows. Flying buttresses supported all the weight of the cathedral and stained glass windows were very thin windows made of glass …show more content…
Also, people could visit and tour these cathedrals which could not have been awful and “dark”. The second source is a paragraph that is part of a world history textbook created by several people. It was published in the year 1954. The point of view in this source is that the Dark Ages were indeed “dark”. This point of view is shown through the quote, “Europe passed through a time of turmoil and confusion, of ignorance and lawlessness...European civilization slipped back into semi-barbarism...there were so many highway robbers that travel became dangerous...western Europe became a region of poverty-stricken farming communities, each virtually isolated from the rest of the world”. Civilizations became barbaric and

After the fall of Rome in the 500's and 1500's Europe was in a time period called the "dark ages". Petrarch, an Italian scholar, created the term "dark ages" as stated in the dark ages movie talk. During the dark ages there were many declines and advancements, making it complicated for historians to decide if it was truly a dark age. These growths and declines are making historians go into a long debate about whether the dark age was really a dark age or a period of growth. Although there are some good elements in the dark ages, the many deaths during the Black Death and the unstable government are more reflective of a dark age.…
