The purpose of this paper is to give a brief glimpse into my understanding of the missions has it pertains to the New Testament. I will integrate the Gospel of Luke –Acts to demonstrate how mission was views in that dispensation, and how we as today believer can apply this Gospel to today’s mission mind set.
Definition of Mission
Some may ask what the definition of mission is. According to the author David Bosch writer of Transforming Mission, the term mission” is a person has to be sent by a sender” . To be sent ones does have to submit to someone that has the authority, Bosch explains that God is the one that ultimately has the authority , He uses the church and mission society as an avenue to get His authority conveyed. The Gospels have been written to show Christian today how to apply the God’s doctrine to win the lost, make disciple and also how to maintain the discipleship. Harris writes that although the Early Churches had a variety of differences,” all had a common root and origins in the life and faith of the Jewish people”. Therefore, that being said the Gospel of Luke-Acts was written by Luke. The gospel was written to express to the Gentiles to be open minded concerning the life Jesus and to understand Christianity as universal. In the gospel of Luke the summary progressed to Jerusalem, the center of Judaism. In Acts the summary progresses to Rome, the center of the world. This progression was made taught as by the use of the power of the Holy Spirit. Acts 6:7 tells us that, “So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priest became obedient to the faith” (NIV).
