Boris Yeltsin and Mikhail Gorbachev disagreed on many subjects. The most prominent of these disagreements is the rate at which they wanted social reform to occur. Gorbachev prefered a slower pace to his reform, easing into it carefully. Yeltsin however, was very much the opposite and this caused conflict between the politicians, “Yeltsin proved an able and determined reformer, but he estranged Gorbachev when he began criticizing the slow pace of reform at party meetings, challenging party conservatives, and even criticizing Gorbachev himself” . Yeltsin was unhappy with the speed of the reform.

The Pravda is the most influential paper in Russia. It has millions of readers and greatly influences the population. There is great significance in the date of this paper. Just days before, Gorbachev had been in the U.S. with President Reagan discussing treaties involving nuclear warheads. The treaty eliminated many of the medium and long range missiles stocked by both countries, “The new treaty, which provides for the dismantling of all Soviet and American medium and shorter range missiles, establishes the most extensive system of weapons inspection ever negotiated by the two countries, including placing technicians at sensitive sites on each other's territory.” This copy of the Pravda included an article on this subject. It is most likely the property of Gorbachev. Included in the document is the section against capitalism. As was previously discussed, Yeltsin has the intentions to rid Russia of communism in place of capitalism while Gorbachev is not supportive of capitalism. This document represents the tension between Gorbachev and Yeltsin. A drunk Yeltsin, upon seeing this document was angered and killed Gorbachev.
Pass From The 27th Party Congress: The 27th Party Congress was the first congress that was presided over by General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev. This congress consisted of 4993 delegates and was considered as an indicator of Gorbachev’s new policies. This congress elected the Central Committee of the Communist party. Two significant members of this committee were Yeltsin and Gorbachev. The Central Committee was the start of their conflicts, “...instead of focusing on the matter at hand Yeltsin, according to Gorbachev, attacked the speed of perestroika, the work of the Secretariat and Ligachev personally. From this point on, the relationship between Gorbachev and Yeltsin would only grow worse....On 10 September he organized an Inquiry Commission of the Central Committee to investigate the performance of the Moscow City Committee under Yeltsin's stewardship—Yeltsin reacted to the inquiry by becoming the first Politburo member in history to willingly resign from his seat.”
