Shortly before God contacts him, Bruce is fed up with God and yells up at the sky, “You’re the one who should be fired! The only one not doing his job around here is you!”
1. What job does God really have?
God’s real job is to ensure the balance of life in the world and to give people what is right for them. This could be in the form of miracles, gifts and most importantly, challenges. Most people don't know what they need and place too much emphasis on what they want. God provides what people truly need not necessarily what they want. The movie also confirms my belief that God can't always give us wat we want because he is more concerned with what we need. It also confirms my belief in a benevolent God who is always trying to teach us and lead us in the right directions.
The movie also hinted at a Christian God as it showed 3 versions of God. The first was the janitor, the second the electrician and the boss.
I believe the janitor would be classed as Jesus, the electrician as the Holy Spirit and the boss as God the Father. Jesus was sent as a servant to help humans and the janitor performs a humble profession which helps everyone. The electrician works with electricity and power and the Holy Spirit is what gives Christians the ability to perform miracles. God the Father is the all-seeing and all-knowing and manages the world, which is why he is the boss.
There is also a play on words in the movie: that Bruce can’t live without Grace (his girlfriend). It is telling us that without God’s grace, we would not be able to live either. We are all sinners, no-one is perfect, but God forgives us and loves us all the same, not matter how much we have
