Overview of Instructional Problem My 8th grade physical education students at Wasatch Jr. High have a difficult time being able to apply the F.I.T.T. principle. While students may be able to identify or define what frequency, intensity, time, and type of exercise have to do with fitness they struggle in applying these principles especially when it comes to goal setting. The F.I.T.T. principle is an important principle that they must be able to apply. This principle is found in the state core curriculum and on the district benchmark tests. I also believe that if students learn how to set goals using the F.I.T.T. principle they will be able to effectively write meaningful goals throughout their lives.

principles are. Students also struggled with applying the principles of the F.I.T.T. principle. Specifically students seemed to confuse what the difference was between frequency and time. Students also did not understand what intensity was and how to measure it. Students were unable to distinguish between broad fitness categories and specific exercises found within those categories. When asked to write a fitness goal with at least 3 principles from the F.I.T.T. principle only 10% of my students were able to adequately accomplish this task. After looking at these results, I realized that I needed to design an instructional unit to help students learn these
