TOPIC: The potential dangers and benefits of GMO’s in our diet.
SPECIFIC PURPOSE: I want to inform my audience about what genetically modified foods are. I want to educate everyday consumers about the intended purpose of GMO’s, as well as the advantages, disadvantages and controversy surrounding them.
THESIS STATEMENT: Several American’s today don’t know that GMO’s are in a majority of the foods they consume, therefore, it is important to educate ourselves more about the potential dangers and benefits GM foods provide.

Another environmental benefit, GM foods are said to greatly enhance the flavor and nutritional value of the current foods we, all while being more economic to produce.
III. Human Benefits – How can we benefit? D. We can create larger and stronger livestock, such as chickens and cows that can feed more people; utilizing less resources in the process. E. Biotech companies are also developing crops that have higher vitamins and minerals, as well as enhanced antioxidant content and protein, which may help prevent chronic diseases.
TRANSITION: Although there are numerous benefits to GMO’S, there are also some negative effects that we should go over.
I. Why some feel that we need to get rid of GMO’S A. GMOs are dangerous and have decreased nutritional value, greater amounts of reported diseases in consumers who have used GMOs, and chemical harm to the environment.

B. To agricultural producers, it’s fairly inexpensive to genetically modify food. The most expensive cost is argued to be in the labeling process. Consumers save when companies don’t have to label their
