Little Rock Nine

The Little Rock Nine started at Central High School with: Melba Pattillo, Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth Eckford, Ernest Green, Gloria Ray, Carlotta Walls, Thelma Mothershed, Terrence Roberts, and Jefferson Thomas.

They were the only African Americans who tried to attend Central High. Since that school was only for white students, the nine African American students couldn’t go to that school. So they made a plan on how to get inside the school. But, since Elizabeth Eckford didn’t have a phone of her own at the time, she didn’t know about the plan. She tried to walk through the front doors of the school and she saw more than 1,000 National Guard Soldiers blocking the doors .

He earned his Bachelor's degree in social science and a Masters degree in Sociology. He joined the Lehman Brothers in 1987. He served the NAACP ( National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). He married to Phyllis Green. They have three children, but Ernest had two children from his marriage before and he had another with Phyllis. Ernest is in one of the Disney movies called The Ernest Green Story.

Gloria Ray Early Life Gloria Ray was born September 26, 1942. She is one of the three children in her family. Her Father retired from the U.S department of Agriculture. Her mother was a sociologist.
When Gloria attended Central High, her father retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Extension Service for Negroes. Her mother was a sociologist working for the state of Arkansas. Career Gloria Ray attended Illinois Institute of Technology to get a Bachelor of science degree. Ray married to Krister Karlmark in 1966. She joined the IBM (International Business Machines Nordic Laboratory). She graduated from Kungliga Patent and Registreringsverket in Sweden, as a patent attorney. After his graduation he went to California State University and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. He went to graduate school in Los Angeles and earned his Master’s Degree in Welfare. On ABC’s Good Morning America, Terrence Roberts got to meet Orval Faubus face to face on the show. Orval Faubus was a Governor, he wanted to defend all white people, he wanted to be re-elected so, he ordered the National Guard Soldiers to stop the nine members that are African American from entering or going to Central High. Terrence is a successful and brave man.

Jefferson Thomas Early Life Jefferson Thomas is the youngest of seven children in his family. He was born September 19, 1942. He was a track and field athlete at Horace Mann High School. His parents named him after Thomas Jefferson.

Career
He went to Los Angeles, California State University. Jefferson earned a degree in Business Administration. He served the army in the Vietnam War. After, he worked for Mobil Oil. He married to Mary Thomas and have one son from Jefferson’s previous marriage. Jefferson Thomas died September 5, 2010 at the age of sixty-seven in Columbus,
