Editorial Feedback I had the opportunity to read my classmate Ana Ortiz’s autobiography whom I enjoyed learning more about. The part about her sister getting Dengue virus made the autobiography more interesting. There were enough details about her personal life to allow readers to get a general idea of who she is. I liked that Ana focused on being a part of the Latino community, but she should expand on it.…

The main idea the novel has helped reinforce was the importance of Latinos/as had on not just American history but world history as well. This knowledge of the Latino stories should not be kept from history books, it should be made clear and available to the United States population of today, to help them understand that the so called “foreigners” that need to leave, were in fact the first inhabitants of the Americas. Another idea the novel help reinforce is that every nationality and especially Latinos/as deserve recognition for the struggles they faced and still face today, as well as their many…

A First Impression Eddie Rivera was a man that stood in the front of the classroom as it was flooding with kids, and just getting one look at him I thought he was going to be pretentious and a man that would basically flatter himself the entire presentation. That predetermined judgement came from just observing his suit, which was incredibly. I was always told not to judge a book by its cover because what you think about that person is probably not true at all. That was the case, Eddie Rivera was the complete opposite of a boring rich man and his speech was incredible. “Give me energy, I need energy”…

Sandra Cisneros has really impressed me. Before I started researching who she was and what kind of work she did, I had no clue she was Mexican-American or that her work reflected who she is, a latina. I’ve heard of other authors writing about their culture and how it affected them growing up,but none were hispanic like Cisneros. She has really caught my attention with her writing. While I read various amounts of excerpts from her writing, I discovered how proud I am to be hispanic and it got me thinking to everything I’ve ever had to face growing up for coming from a hispanic background.…

Being children born to immigrants comes with many significant struggles, especially culturally. Parents adapting to overwhelming culture shocks, separation from familiarities and children growing up unfamiliar to their own heritage. I felt as if the premise of the novel held many deep and marvelous insights into different stories about being raised in 2 different worlds. Whilst reading through the novel you are able to clearly identify with all the characters feelings. I think the author was able to illustrate this beautifully.…
