In class we discussed a case study called “The Theater Budget” about an organization called Greater Euclid Little Theater, which is a small group of adults staging performances. The organization changed after Cathy Cole, the then newly artistic director was appointed. After Cathy Cole, left her position, Andy Spaulding took on the position as an artistic director. In the case study provided, the case starts with the discussion on increasing salary pay for Any Spaulding, however many board members including Jane Dobbs, the Vice President for Administration and President-elect, David Price, President and Treasurer Nicky Counts all came with the agreement that they were unable to provide the amount of salary Spaulding wanted because of insufficient…
Colour palettes were bold, high contrasting colours; black, chrome and white were widely used. Shiny fabrics, mirrors and cocktail cabinets evoked the glamour of the early days of Hollywood. Elements were often arranged in symmetrical…
It looked like the actors were in a real home because of all the subtle details throughout the set. The living room setting with rugs and items on the coffee table to the kitchen with dishtowels and tableware, all of that made the home looked lived and intimate. The costumes were modern and represented the fashions of today, and were appropriate for the age of the characters. Another thing I enjoyed about the setting were the lights that were installed in each of the rooms of the house that changed color when there was a song. That effect really brings your attention to the entirety of the set when a character sings and it puts them in the moment of the…

Another core ideas of Modernism that iPic Theater employed is that “form must follow function.” The idea of “form follows function suggests that “as long as the functional requirements are satisfied form will follow and seem pleasing” (Papanek, 6) First, this could be seen in the premium chairs offered by iPic Theater. The chairs fulfilled its functional requirement, which is to provide high level comfort to the users. With its extra cushioned leather design and large size, individuals have a lot of space in their seats, providing a cozy feeling. As a result, the chairs look pleasing because people feel at ease with the chairs.…
The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic depression that took place mostly during the 1930’s. It began after the stock market crash of October 1929, which wiped out millions of investors. Consumer spending and investment dropped causing millions of Americans to become unemployed. Because of many unemployed workers, Franklin D. Roosevelt created the New Deal program to fund theatre and other live artistic performances. The federal Theatre Project (FTP) was created not only as a cultural activity, but as a relief measure to employ artists, writers, directors, and theatre workers.…
I also painted the rest of the theater including the stage. After I finished painting and waited for it to dry I labeled some of the things I thought was important, but I found that some parts where hard to reach and be noticeable at the same time. This process took me most of the day as well as some time out of other days as…
“Capitol Theatre is at the former site of the Belmore Markets. The latter, built by George McRae (Architect) and Norman Selfe (structural engineer) in 1891, but was commercially unsuccessful due to its location, being too far from Darling Harbour. The old site was rebuilt as a theatre in 1928.” Since the early 19th century when this section of land was used by settlers as a market place for manufacture and hay, hence its name, “Haymarket”.…
IPic Theater associate itself with grandeur and wealth. IPic Theater is located between Westwood Boulevard and Malcolm Avenue, an area is associated with upper social class because it is surrounded with five stars hotels and luxurious condominiums. Therefore, the location of iPic Theater suggests that it is classifying itself as one of high class entertainment business and targeted to middle and upper class family. Aside from the location, iPic Theater associates itself with grandeur and wealth through the services that they offer. Ipic Theater allow moviegoers to watch a movie, while sitting in a reclining chair that has a button to summon a personal waiter.…
Moving Theatre October 24, 2015 Joshua Chong It gets interesting when you take a play, put it outdoors and stretch it out over 3 kilometres. Even more so when each scene is written by different playwrights. Some may call it original, others may call that weird. My Lakeshore My Home (MLMH), produced by Sirius Theatrical is one of these plays.…
“Shrek the Musical” is a book musical adaption of the Dream Works film Shrek. The librettist and lyricist is David Lindsay-Abaire and was composed by Jeanine Tesori. The story line of the play follows closely to the film. It follows Shrek an Ogre trying to reclaim his swamp back from a group of fairy tale characters. In order to do so he must confront Lord Farquad who has banished all the fairy tale characters to Shrek's swamp.…
I feel young boys wanted to act at the time because they had a passion for acting and had a great love for it that it did not matter to them that they had to play characters of the opposite sex to them. Also at the time of Shakespeare it was illegal for women to perform Elizabethan theatre, therefore there were no actresses at the Globe Theatre. Also the way Shakespeare wrote about women in his plays and described them was completely wrong for example in “Richard 2nd the queen and her ladies” he wrote that all the women would be dressed like circus freaks. The acting profession was not seen as a very credible or good job so women did not appear in plays therefore it was up to the boys to take on the female roles otherwise I don’t know what…
For starters, the visual effects were impeccable. The lighting designer had…
Mak Yong is an ancient Malay traditional dance theatre including singing, dancing, acting, vocal and instrumental music, gestures, elaborate costumes, comedy as well as improvised spoken text in a single performance. Mak Yong is believed to be appeared well before the Islamization of the country. It is extending from the Patani region of southern Thailand through Kelantan, a north eastern state of West Malaysia. The majority of Mak Yong performances involved acting therefore no script were ever constructed for the dialogs. The stories were usually memorized by the actors, musicians and comedians who have performed the Mak Yong for several times.…
The concert was so colorful when the students performed and the costumes blended in well with the colors. The whole setup was a perfect design to get our full interested attention. The choices of colors were endless and always mixing I could have never…
