1. Climate Change. We are putting too much greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and on the verge of massive climate change. Some potential changes are it is three times more likely nitrogen will get into the atmosphere than the earth can sustain. Increase in the loss of major ice sheets, accelerated sea level rise and abrupt shifts in forest and agricultural systems. A doubling in atmospheric CO2 concentration will lead to a global temperature rise if about 3 degrees Celsius.
2. Biodiversity- Massively over on biodiversity loss. Species start to become extinct very fast. The rate of extinction of species …show more content…
4. (5 points). List the social foundations that define the lower boundary of the “safe and just space for humanity” defined in the talk. Globally, where are we in relation to the social boundary? Water, income, education, resilience, voice, jobs, energy, social equity, gender equality, health and food. We are falling below on the social boundary on every dimension. 13% of people don’t have enough food. 19% don’t have access to electricity. We are outside of the social boundary.
5. (10 points). In your own words, describe the ways we are putting pressure on both upper and lower boundaries of the “safe and just space for humanity,” and describe some ways we can get ourselves back within the “safe space.” We are using a lot more materials than we should be, sending tons of toxins into the atmosphere. We are using more land for agriculture, destroying biodiversity and creating more gasses that can/will potentially change the climate. If we change how much resources we use by very little we are able to help those on the lower boundaries. We need to change the production patterns of every country in the world to balance out the entire world. We need to look at metrics and social metrics and listen to scientists to see how the world is changing socially and economically. We need to learn where boundaries are so we can begin out
