Earth is currently on a course of global warming. Scientist, politicians, and the general public may agree that the Earth’s average temperature is increasing, but there is a disagreement on if the occurrence is natural or as a result of human interference. The general agreement can be attributed to the increase of greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere. The main greenhouse gases include water vapor, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and methane. Water vapor is a natural result of …show more content…
The ocean temperatures have increased, thus leading to stronger tropical storms. Within the last 35 years, the intensity and number of storms have increased. Extreme drought has lead to environments that are susceptible to wildfires. Along with extreme doubts, torrential downpours are common as well. (Nrdc.org) While humans inhabit the Earth, global warming has caused extreme heat waves across the globe along with low quality of air. The byproducts of industrial and agricultural companies have left cities under a blanket of smog, pollen, and pollution. (Nrdc.org) Global warming has affected a specific part of the world in terms of wildlife. Taken from the Natural Resources Defense Council, “A recent study of nearly 2,000 species of plants and animals discovered movement toward the poles at an average rate of 3.8 miles per decade. Similarly, the study found species in alpine areas to be moving vertically at a rate of 20 feet per decade in the second half of the 20th century.” (Nrdc.org) The coldest part of the Earth is located at the furthest northern or Southern part of the globe. While the Earth is warming up, the animals are seeking a cooler environment, which leads them to migrate north. A logical explanation on why there is a sudden migration of wildlife. Leading us to the visual example of global warming, the melting of glaciers. The increased temperature has resulted in the melting of glaciers and an increase of four to eight inches of sea level during the last century.
