Argument Essay: Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change

“Scientist are more confident than ever that humans are responsible.” This is a quote by Climate Scientist, Ilissa Ocko from 2013 in a report called Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. When the topic of global warming, or now called “climate change” is brought to the table, many people have serious thoughts about the argument. Some say that humans are completely at fault for the climate change, while others argue that the global warming and climate change debate is all a hoax. There is sort of a happy medium of the argument where people think that climate change is a legitimate thing, yet it isn’t at the fault of human kind. Changes in climate can result from many different types of things. Even though natural events and human activity on Earth can cause the climate to change, the bulk of the change has become a problem in result of human activity. Greenhouse gases trap heat, therefor when we extract and burn fossil fuels such as coal, we cause the release of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Another large problem is that losing forests constantly is not making it any better. Clearing the forests also releases large amounts of carbon dioxide. On top of that, plants and trees use it to grow. Worldwide deforestation means we don’t have as many trees to absorb the extra carbon dioxide. This means the more of it that stays in the atmosphere, the more heat is trapped. These are only a few of the bigger problems in the argument of human-caused climate change. Without even mentioning the other problems that humans have caused recently to make the climate change again, one can tell that it is obviously held in all responsibility of human
