Gladys Nervousness

Decent Essays
Gladys nervousness shows in her calls and she lacks confidence, which causes for a slow moving process through the script and inconsistencies in her verification protocols. She jumps ahead the NAPE before finishing, spells back letters & numbers as the caller gives them and puts calls on hold for long periods of time. Gladys needs to work on the dead space as she moves along the script, let callers finish spelling or stating numbers before she spells or repeats back the information, and set up orders with callers on the line.

Who is “A Certain Lady”? Although Dorothy Parker, author of “A Certain Lady”, only “explicitly names herself as the protagonist” in two of her works (Helal 77), it seems that she embodies the speaker of this poem. The speaker is a manipulative woman who is apparently an amazing actress. Parker has also been said to “cunningly manipulate her autobiographical monologues both to exploit the literary market and to critique the limiting effects of celebrity culture on women writers” (Helal 78).…

Telephone Throughout the film The Spiral Staircase, the object of the telephone is frequently featured in a number of scenes as part of the mise en scène, seemingly as a passive choice for the sake of filling the scene with objects found in the average household, yet more actively used as a deliberate choice to represent an idea of imperfection, and the fear of normal everyday activities. It is only when we dig deeper that we find this fear further highlights the idea of Helen’s imperfection, in particular as being something out of the ordinary and strange, simply because the object of the telephone is not often associated with terror. Consequently the telephone itself can tell us more about Helen’s progression as a female protagonist in the female gothic genre, than Helen’s actions leading up to the final scenes.…
