The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada located in Brampton, Ontario in the Peel Region, serves as a “provider of before and after school programs for children and youth that support the healthy physical, educational, and social development of 58,000 young people and their families in the community,” (Boys and Girls Clubs of Peel Region). I decided to go to this social welfare agency as I currently live in Brampton, and wanted to obtain more knowledge with one of its representatives regarding the organizations program. However it later expanded in Canada, more specifically in New Brunswick, where the Boys and Girls Clubs started a service that aimed to help the youth. At the time, there was a “public playground movement” that was open to children to play in, rather than risking their lives in the dangerous streets with no one taking care of them (“Our History”). It was later recognized publically, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada became a “national body representing more than 30 member Clubs” and was thought of by Vernon McAdam, who was named the first National Executive Director (“Our History”). In 1974, the name of the organization was officially labelled as the “Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada” from the original “Everyday Club” (“Our History”). Suddenly, there were a large number of volunteers and participants joining from across the country due to its increase popularity and its purpose to help youth live a successful life. This organization dates back of 100 years of history that truly offered children safe environments to live in from pre-school until their teenage years.
