Language features in once. In the novel once Morris Gleitzman portrays Felix as a caring character because he cares for Zelda his new friend and the orphans by telling them stories from his imagination. On page 66 Morris Gleitzman writes about how Felix was caring towards Zelda “Once I spent about six hours telling stories to Zelda, to keep her spirits up-” clearly Morris is telling us that Felix obviously cares about her and doesn’t want Zelda to feel down in the dumps. Keep in mind that Zelda does not know her parents are no longer alive but Felix does, so trying to save Zelda from the heartache is also another example of how caring Felix is.…

In the book The Round House by Louise Erdrich, one thing that I really liked was the plot in which the story took place. The novel took place in an Indian reserve in South Dakota on the year of 1988. This plot interests me because, in contrast to Saratoga, it is poor, people are always hungry and the city is still much undeveloped. Plus, it also amuses me how people lived in 1988 were a lot different from cities in the present. Another thing that I appreciated about the novel was the look into the life of a person whose family member was sexually assaulted.…

While The Odyssey might, upon first glance, involve godly intervention against humans to advance its plot, the true conflict that drives the whole story is the selfish and arrogant nature of men against other men. The human-on-human conflict is the very cause of all the other three classical conflicts, as a conflict between humans often escalates to a conflict against the Greek gods, a war against oneself, and finally a war against the powerful forces of nature. Human arrogance and pride are the sole causes of the situations that the characters, both mortal and immortal, face in The Odyssey. The human-on-human conflict in The Odyssey is the driving factor behind godly intervention, which means that a conflict involving humans and gods is, in…

This story gives a more sympathetic and altered portrayal of the creature known as Grendel. Grendel is speaking for himself and using empathy for his pain. It gives the reader the question of who the real evil in the world is, whether it is Monster or Men. In the beginning of the novel, Grendel is a misunderstood creature.…
