Geriatric Nursing Journal

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us this week. Reading your post this week I learned something new about the Geriatric Nursing Journal (GNJ). According to Kartes and Kamel (2013) the Geriatric Nursing Journal is a comprehensive source for clinical information and management advice relating to the care of older adults. The journal's peer-reviewed articles reports the latest developments in the management of acute and chronic disorders and provide practical advice on care of older adults across the long term continuum(Kartes & Kamel, 2013). I think that the GNJ would be a great fit for anyone that is targeting the geriatric population. Looking forward to learning more about your project as the semester

The 2010 Affordable Care Act (ACA) created and opportunity for the United States (U.S) to enhance access to health care and, significantly reduced the number of uninsured people. However, the ACA blocked undocumented immigrants from purchasing health insurance in the market it created, leaving millions with limited routes to health care. The current health care market has unintentionally created a delivery system in which the treatment of individuals has often been between the ethical dilemma of proving care versus the cost of health care and the providers who have a duty to provide such care (Thomsen, 2015). The purpose of this paper is to discuss how the Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) can influence practice with the complex issues…

I think its a great idea and unfortunately many professionals forget to question their practice for advancement, especially when they have been in their job for a longer period of time. I notice many in the beginning don't look to rock the boat and then later in their careers many get relaxed and forget new changes in advancement could greatly hinder their practice by not being more open. I personally am going into Healthcare administration and would prefer to work within the Geriatrics area. I notice the lack of advanced education and training is one of the largest issues you will find in these areas of healthcare. It's unfortunate because the main drive in society has become preventive care…

As a result advance care planning was on the forefront due to end of life care no longer being eminent with their patients. Furthermore, the facility did not have a protocol or policy on advance care planning or advance directives.…

Over the course of the last ten weeks, I have been shadowing a variety of nursing roles within a nursing home nearby for my mentorship. During this time I have followed a variety of nurses and other closely related roles in the nursing home. While each experience was fulfilling and enjoyable, I found a sort of home in the dementia unit at the facility. It is questionable as to why I had chosen this section, but I have come to realize that it may be because of the behavior that is observed in this section. Due to their dementia, many of the residents have fallen back into the behavior of a toddler.…
