During James Monroe’s presidency his foreign policy was the Monroe Doctrine. The United States was the first nation to recognize the newly independent nations of Latin America. Also, the United States warned europeans to stay out of the Western Hemisphere and the U.S. wouldn’t interfere in european affairs. The nation and those powers to declare that we should consider any attempt on their part to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere is dangerous to our peace and safety (Doc 3). The Monroe Doctrine was established because we didn’t want any furthermore relations with european nations and or additional european colonization would be tolerated. Also, European nations should stay away from any affairs of the Western Hemisphere. The atlantic ocean enabled the U.S. to maintain distance from the european affairs. Then eventually president Theodore Roosevelt threatened to use our military to protect Latin America from the Europeans. Thomas Jefferson’s foreign policy of the Louisiana Purchase helped the United States gain more territory and have a better relationship with France. James Monroe’s foreign policy of the Monroe doctrine helped the nation become more independent and gain the ability to protect other nations who need aid. All three of these foreign policies helped the United States grow and flourish to a stronger, independent
