George Washington Carver was a scientist during slavery and the civil war. He was born as a slave in Missouri. The fact that he was born during the time, African Americans couldn’t go to school, which drove him to learn. When he was a bit older, he left the carter house to go to school. Life for African Americans was hard during that time so after he was graduated from Iowa state, got him popular enough for a college to want to hire him. He lived in the south trying to help others learn, he also went around in a vehicle to teach people who couldn’t go to college like farmers.
