George Pickett was born on January 25, 1825 in Richmond, Virginia. When George was born he was the oldest child of Robert and Mary Pickett. At the age of 17 George received an invitation to the United States Military Academy and graduated last in his class. After graduation Pickett was immediately asked to go into the Mexican-American War. After the war Pickett continued to serve in the US Military, and he was assigned to the Washington Territory.
During the war Pickett had many duties in the war. On duty he had was Frontier duty where he over saw the construction of the ford Bellingham. While he was there at the fort he married a Haida women who gave birth his first son named, James, in 1857. George Pickett
