Geocaching Paper
Introduction
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunt game that uses Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled devices to help participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates to find the geocache that is hidden at the location.(geocaching.com/guide/) A geocache is a container of different sizes ranging from nano to large that contains a log sheet and different items that are left from visitors. We were excited to see and experience new places that we have never been before. We have had the pleasure as a group to go to different places all over the island; Hawaii Kai to Ewa Beach and all in between. Besides trying to find these little treasures on our little treasure hunts, we’ve also got to see magnificent sceneries that we could have not believe existed on the islands. These geocaching trails lead us to not only these little treasures but to also find waterfalls, hidden lakes, and beautiful scenic locations we never thought of going to before. Although this geocaching project brings you to mysterious finds, what we all loved most is that geocaching also brings strangers together creating long lasting connections. During our adventures, we were also fortunate to come across some nice people from other places that were doing the exact same thing. What we’ve learned from these people were that in order to get the full experience from geocaching, you must have an open mind and have the willingness and the patience to do this type of activity. They have told us that through the use of geocache, they’ve made the most out of their vacation because they’ve got to see things outside of the cliché vacation magazines the Tourism Association promote. Since a bunch of us are new to the island, geocaching gave us a chance to explore the islands and learn a lot about the Hawaiian culture we’re living in. It was an exciting adventure that we were able to experience because it was fun trying to find where the geocaches were hidden and once we were able to find it we were excited to see what was inside and all the people that also found it before
