Sarah (originally named Sarai) was one of several women in the Bible who were unable to have children. That proved doubly distressing for her because God had promised her husband Abraham that he would be the father of the Jewish nation, with descendants more numerous than the stars in the sky. After waiting many years, Sarah convinced Abraham to sleep with her handmaiden, Hagar, to produce an heir. That was an accepted practice in ancient times.…

There are many interpretations of the different stories in the Bible that often do not agree with each other. From ancient interpreters who believe that the Bible is written from the account of one person to modern scholars who believe that the Bible is written from various accounts, the Bible can be viewed in multiple ways. One of the stories that are placed under careful examination is the “She’s not my wife, she’s my sister” narrative. The passages that fall under this narrative are Genesis 12:10-20, Genesis 20:1-18, and Genesis 26:1-11. When analyzed, these passages appear to be parallels to each other (Berlin 42).…

Jacob was the son of Isaac and Rebekah making him the grandson of Abraham and Sarah. He even had a twin brother named Esau. Even though most parents say they do not have a favorite child, it was known that Esau was Isaac’s favorite, and Jacob was Rebekah’s favorite. This caused some jealousy towards Esau as Jacob wanted the approval and blessing from his father that would surely be given to Esau instead.…

The question concerning this appearance lies in textual criticism. If manuscripts A, B, and C, represent the earlier reading, then a later author may have written covenant into the text. If Gp and Ethiopian Enoch represent the earlier text, then later authors may have written covenant out of the text. More likely, however, these distinctions identify differing interpretations, as no reason exists to assume a normative text and its variations. Jubilees and Testament of Moses Jubilees, as an expansion of Genesis and Exodus, contains over forty references to covenants.…

The similarity in both Isaac and Jesus carrying their own wood for their respective sacrifices suggests a connection between the two, and thus the New Testament text gains new meanings in light of this. It reveals that Jesus, like Isaac, carries his own burdens, trusting in his father’s plans due to a strong belief in and love for him. In addition, Jesus can also be paralleled to Abraham, as he is willing to sacrifice in order to fulfill God’s wishes. Although, in the New Testament passage…
