The two boys both have their own highly different personalities. This means they begin to get jealous of the others gifts. In the book Gene realizes that Finny is extremely jealous of his gifts and tries many different ways to ruin Gene. An example is when Finny convinced Gene to go to the beach and kept him up all night, which caused Gene to get a bad grade on his trigonometry test the next morning.
