General Scott would also become an accomplished writer. He was revered as operating with stern discipline, professionalism, and won respect from those who served with and below him. His strict standards even came with interesting stories which he wrote about in his biography published in 1864. Since General Scott opposed strong alcoholic drinks, if he found a Soldier drinking or drunk he would have them to dig a grave that would accommodate their size, he would then have them sit and ponder lying in the grave for if they were caught drinking again, he would put them there (Winfield Scott, 2004).
