Majority of the general education courses I took or will be taking supports most of my concentration classes. For instance I took computer fundamental classes in operating systems, programming, and database to advance in web systems development and data communications and networking. To be successful in web systems development I needed some understanding and become familiar in programming. Programming is basically learning a computer language it will allow you to tell the computer what design you want or command the computer. The prerequisites for data communications and networking would be operating systems and network. I took the fundamentals in operating systems at CUNY and during my military IT training in Cisco network fundamentals, Cisco routing protocols, and network administration I became familiar and comfortable in taking the course. …show more content…
Social/Professional Issues in IT and Information Assurance touches the subject in security but with the two courses I added will give me more knowledge in security. Knowing and understanding concepts in IT security could give me an advantage and help solve more problems for companies. Another general education course I took is Introduction to psychology which supports the Human- Computer Interaction course. Attending my psychology class I learned about human functions, ways of thinking, diversity, and cultural differences. Understanding the ways of people will allow me to see the connections between people and technology so new programs and computer interfaces could successfully be developed. In order to take discrete mathematics I took college algebra and applied calculus to be prepared for the more advance level

I am interested in volunteering at California Hospital Medical Center because it offers me experience I can not get anywhere else. As a minor in college pursuing a career in medicine, it is difficult to find a hospital that will allow me to watch the different specialities in medicine. At California Hospital Medical Center, I can watch doctors do what they are best at, and see the difference they make first hand. Additionally, California Hospital Medical Center offers a variety of services, and it is close to my college. Getting to California Hospital Medical Center will not take long, and I can get there by public transportation.…

So staying in the dorms was an interesting opportunity to really test my newfound patience. I also learned many valuable life lessons and received an abundance of helpful advice at SouthWestern Michigan College. Being proactive instead of reactive was one of the best sayings I ever heard in Business 201 – Principles of Management with Stacey Horner. This is one of the best classes I could recommend to anyone, reading “Who Moved My Cheese” is what in fact inspired me. Several other helpful classes I would recommend are; Educational Exploration, Intro to Computer Technology, Intro to Meetings and Events, Professionalism Workshop, Business Law I, Micro and Macro Economics, Human Resource Management, and Two Dimensional Design.…

Session five was a big stepping stone for me, I believe I asked questions that guided her and properly validated her feelings, not to mention my powerful use of silence during the whole session. This reflection will shift gears from how I originally lay out my reflections. I usually express the goals I said I would work on and then share the progress I made during the succeeding session. However, I shared my uncertainty about where to take our session after the last one. I believe this doubt helped session five unfold the way it did.…

Despite the initial slow start, I encouraged the club’s members to jump in and contribute.…

In many classrooms across America today, race and ethnicity are very much on the table. Teachers dream of seeing their students discuss difference in a constructive way. Some educators actively encourage their classes to get outside their comfort zones and confront the country’s racial history, but I ask myself after reading McIntosh’s Interactive Phases of Curricular and Personal Re-Vision Model, how much was race and ethnicity practice in the classroom long ago when I was in elementary. I can remember when I was in 10th grade my history teacher showed the movie of “Roots” for a project in the month of February. Of course, if you have ever seen the movie “Roots”, it is a very long movie broken into 4 parts.…

General education classes may be beneficial, but take time out and imagine college without general education classes except for the classes that are beneficially related to your main program classes; school would be so much easier, faster, and more affordable without classes unrelated to our major. There would be less homework creating more study time for main classes, more availability creating a chance to take more of your main class prerequisites to get to your degree faster, and time would be available for internship if needed. If main courses just included the required general education material into their own material there wouldn 't be a need for so many years of school and so many classes in a week. College students would be more successful if general education classes were just optional and not required considering the fact that some students don 't get to reach the success of their major degree all because they didn 't pass some of their general education requirements or their work schedule didn 't meet the study time needed for their general education classes. Some students could be highly potential with their major but suffer difficulties within some general education classes causing them to fail meeting…

However, I greatly enjoyed my experience in my English 102 class. I loved almost every aspect of my English 102 class, including my teacher, classmates, and even work that was required. As I began this class in January my definition of curriculum was based on the academic coursework teachers use to instruct the information. Now my definition of curriculum is anything that falls under the auspice of the school that includes coursework, classroom arrangement, instruction, assessment, student engagement, and community involvement. My perspective is curriculum is what students learn in and out of the school. We need to teach students to become learners and problem solvers for the 21st century. I currently work at The Academy at Penncrest High School through the Simon Youth Foundation.…
