Amish and Australian cultures are unique to one another in the way they interact with their society, but nonetheless, have similarities that we can reflect upon from our own society. To fully understand and acknowledge divergent cultures, we must study their aspects while comparing them to our own culture.

Equality of male and female roles in Australian culture are promoted, does this mean however male dominance isn’t present? Enforced through the 2012 Workplace Gender Equality Act, equal pay is ensured for men and women. However, the 2018 Workplace Gender Equality Agency statistics display full-time earnings of females are 15.3% less than those of men, displaying male dominance in society.
In Australia, relationships are a choice composed of two people consisting of either the opposite or same sex. Legalisation of same-sex marriage in Australia occurred on the 9th of December 2017. The Ordnung (German translation for ‘order’) is a set of rules created by the church’s Bishop, reflecting the Bible's commandments for the whole of the Amish community to follow. A biblical passage states, “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve.” Reflecting a patriotic society for Amish, where men have complete authority over women and in the church. Central authority is not present in Amish society although important decisions are made as a community within the church.
