Gender Inequality In The United States

Gender signifies the personal traits and social positions that members of a society attach to being female or male (Morra, 2018). It is used in our society as tool to shape how we interact with one another and think about ourselves. Additionally, it has created a hierarchy and ranking system based on power, wealth, and status. In the US, there is gender inequality that leads to an uneven dispersal of wealth, power, and privilege between men and women. This essay will discuss why gender inequality still exists in America by examining the roles of patriarchy and sexism; women’s experience in the workplace, economic, educational, and political system, and possible proposed solutions. To begin, many people believe there is something “natural” about gender distinctions since biology make one sex different from the other (Morra, 2018). This is only one perspective and we shouldn’t put much thought to the biological differences. Gender inequality continues due to the cultural patterns and stereotypes. In general, most individuals don’t given women the benefit of the doubt in situations. They make assumptions of women, which interfere with women’s ability to progress in our world. For example, women were denied the right to vote because so many assumed females did not have the intelligence or interest in politics (Morra, 2018).
