There have been cases where men have been born with female ovaries. When the boy was a baby, no one knew about this inside of him. When he was nineteen, he looked like any normal man. He had a healthy relationship with his girlfriend, both emotionally and physically. But when he developed breasts, he knew something was wrong. After he went to the doctor, he found out that he had ovaries inside of him. In this situation, he was both a male and a female. No category was present for him to be classified with, no way to determine what his gender was. But, he did have his gender identity. Gender identity is who one might say their gender is, apart from what their physical body says it is. Gender identity is the way gender is decided because there comes a point when science or anatomy cannot. There have been instances where men have been born with ovaries on the inside. Science could not decide his gender then, and it was up to him to decide who he was going to be. There have been hermaphrodites, who are born with two parts. Science could not dictate their gender, and it was up to their discretion. They could not make the choice as a baby, even though there are gender roles assigned to them from day one.
