Gel Electrophoresis Experiment

First lane is the protein ladder which is used as a reference and to estimate the size of different proteins. Lane 1 in the green box contains cow serum which shows high mobility since it dyes all the way to the bottom with different bands through the gel. Lane 2 contained one dark band at the bottom of the gel. Lane 3 shows o dark band with low mobility through the gel. Lane 4 shows one band stained with medium mobility through the gel. Sample proteins 1-4 were separated through gel electrophoresis where the mobility of proteins is due to different size and pI. Even when the latter marker is barely visible in the gel, a copy was provided in class to compare with the bands obtained in our samples. Based on the column 1, it can be observed 4 clear bands in the gel. The 4 bands observed in the gel correspond to the gamma globulin, albumin, transferrin and alpha 1 and alpha 2. Column 2 serum albumin with a low pI (4.7) was observed to have the highest movement in the gel due to its high attraction to the positive charge in the electrophoresis. Column 3 shows the lowest movement due to is low pI, having a slow mobility in the gel.

Through my group result there is strong evidence that albumin with the lower pI (4.7) had the grater movement though the gel and Gamma Globulin had the lowest due to high pI (6.3-6.7).It was shown that he migration of the samples was related to the pI of the proteins. The lower the pI the more movement it would have to the positive site of the gel and bands would show grater migration. The proteins assigned to our groups worked properly through the whole experiment. . What I have learned from this experiment is the proper techniques needed to perform PCR, as well as understanding and procedures that are used in DNA
