By looking at "Lifeboat Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor" by Garrett Hardin, society can see that there are limited resources and have to make a decision to help the poor economic people. The importance in this argument is that the population of poor people will keep growing every year.
The first proposed idea the author gives is we should let in all 100 poor, under privileged, people into the lifeboat. This option is based around the Christians belief of "our brothers keeper" and the Marxist ideal of "to each according to his needs".
