Charles Emile-August Carolus-Duran’s piece titled Portrait of an Artist in her Studio represents the action of a women painting. This piece was made in the late 19th century (c. 1880) and was considered one of Carolus-Duran’s great society portraits. The piece’s present location is the La Salle University Art Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and its original location was *****. This portrait is oil on canvas, and the “quick, loose brushwork” technique can be accredited to masters such as Diego Velasquez and Edouard Manet (placard.) Art is like a window to the mind, representing how one thinks or what one feels. In some cases, it may contain elements from one’s unconscious; elements that even they are not aware of themselves. Art has zero qualifications, allowing it to be crafted by anyone and everyone, while still containing components of its creator and provoking feelings in its spectators. (Rustin, 2008) Of the pieces involved in the Best of the Season exhibit at the Webber Gallery, Lunch With Einstein by David D’Alessandris is one of the more “unusual” pieces. It contains four figures, whose heads seem to be taken from elsewhere and pasted onto their bodies.…

The book The Art of Racing in the Rain is written based on a true story of the author Garth Stein, but instead of telling a story like any other literature, this book is written from author’s pet dog, Enzo’s perspective. This book is mainly a biography of the author during the times his dog, Enzo, is present, and what makes this biography so great is that the concept of the dog telling the story is constantly reminded by the author Stein, and Stein added on the imaginary but realistic thoughts of his dog Enzo. It all started with Enzo being picked out at the dog farm by Denny, the master. Enzo believed truly that “when a dog is finished living his lifetimes as a dog, his next incarnation will be as a man” (2). Throughout the whole novel, Enzo…

I have chosen an American wartime propaganda poster produced by J. Howard Miller in 1943 for Westinghouse Electric as an inspirational image to boost worker morale. This poster is called, “We Can Do It” but is also referred to as “Rosie the Riveter” because of the woman illustrated on the poster. “The "We Can Do It!" image was used to promote feminism and other political issues beginning in the 1980s. The image made the cover of the Smithsonian magazine in 1994 and was fashioned into a US first-class mail stamp in 1999.”…

Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael both formed the iconic dyad of the epitome of Renaissance art. In Leonardo da Vinci’s Madonna of the Rocks as well as Raphael’s rendition of da Vinci’s painting Madonna in the Meadow, a religious scene is depicted with Madonna gazes towards an exchange between Saint John and Jesus Christ in infantry as she realizes the grave future that Christ faces. While both paintings feature the same biblical figures in similar fashion, Raphael’s rendering takes on a brighter and lighter tonality and clearer disposition unlike Da Vinci’s more sullen, hazy, and darker painting. Nonetheless, both paintings portray an air of spirituality.…
