Parana Pine: For the Parana Pine I obtained the published value from a website since the values on the lab sheet didn’t have a values for Parana Pine. Firstly, I calculated my own Young’s Modulus Value with the result got from the tests using the equation for Young’s Modulus in Bending: E= l³/(4bd^3 ) x ( Δw)/( Δx) From using this equation, I achieved 14.44 E/GPa as a value, the published value, was: 11.37 E/GPa found on ‘The Wood Database’. The difference between my results and the Published values is: 3.07, and it was still within the range of the published value. Regarding the accuracy of the test, since this was my first time conducting this type of test, there may have been some mistakes I made that could have affected the results…

CHANGES IN SEVERITY OF PUNISHMENTS OVER TIME The perspective based off of Georg Rusche and Otto Kirchheimer’s work, addresses the change in severity of punishment over time in various ways. First, Rusche and Kirchheimer’s framework implied that when the conditions within a penal institutions as well as imprisonment rates became harsher, society was in a time when the elite members of society were fighting against the working class to sustain their power. As I reflect back on the modules we covered during this semester, two particular topics really grabbed my attention “Wrongful Convictions” and “Justice Reinvestment.” These two particular topics provided me another perspective how America’s adversarial system has some deeply rooted flaws embedded it. One of the most controversial, and perhaps,most important American legal principle, is the exclusionary clause which under Constitutional law, holds that evidence collected or analyzed in violation of defendants constitutional rights is not permitted for use in criminal persecutions. Sparked by the famous case Mapp v. Ohio, the exclusionary rule has a fair share of critics who argue that police blunders let criminals go free. In the 1961 Supreme Court case, Dollree Mapp was convicted when police searched her house ,under a false warrant, for a suspected bomb fugitive and found “lewd, lavicious, or obscene material”, otherwise known as pornography. Mapp claimed the police had no probable cause to search for the obscene materials found; the Court let her go because the material had been seized without a warrant. Despite the occasional occurrence of criminals going free, the exclusionary rule is vital to democracy because the principle ensures liberty and justice in America for all.…

According to Kent Greenwalt (1983), both retributive, as well as the utilitarian perspective in relation to justification of societal punishments were prevailing methodologies.
