Definition of Injury
The gallbladder is an organ that holds the excess bile produced by the liver. When the gallbladder ruptures, this excess bile leaks, caused by inflammation.(Krause, 2015)

Mechanism of Injury
The two ways a gallbladder can rupture are from inflammation, or due to blunt injury. Causes of inflammation that lead to rupture are “Gallstones, ascariasis, bacterial infections, and biliary sludge” (Krause, 2015) the most common form of blunt injury gallbladder rupture is from motor vehicles accidents, and direct blows from contact sports.

Diet
Follow a low fat diet for three months
Activity
No vigorous activity for first 24-48 hours. No lifting over 10-15 pounds for 6 weeks
Return to work when when comfortable to do so, most often patients return 7-10 days after surgery.
Prevention
The most one can do to prevent a rupture is to remove the gallbladder before it can rupture. SOAP Case(Kohler, Millin, Bonner, Louw, 2002)
