Gaelle's Anxiety-Personal Narrative

Anxiety
An old man dressed in robes of the coldest shade of onyx had been following Gaelle for all of her life.
He was everywhere, lurking in every nook and cranny, blending into every shadow, hiding in all the spots that were close enough for him to interfere but far enough that she could never gain a semblance of what he looked might look like. He bid his time, and he was patient, because he knew that he would wreak havoc when he came out.
She first met him when she was just a breath away from 12 years of age.
The young girl sat at her desk amidst the other noisy students, writing out her thoughts and her dreams. She had always been fond of literature- it calmed her, it gave her a break from the constant pressure to be perfect.
That tranquility

“I see people appreciating each other’s presence. I see them making jokes and I see that they’re all good friends. They care about each other.”
“Good. Now, does that ever happen to you?”
“I-I.” She dropped her pencil onto the desk and tried to concentrate on the words that she spoke, to keep them from leaving lacerations on the inside of her mouth.
“No. That doesn’t happen to me.”
“Why is that?”
“ It’s because I used to have an atrocious personality, so no one is interested in talking to me anymorenow.”
The old man seemed to get a sick kind of pleasure from the evident pain their conversation gave her.
“Is that so? Well if that’s true, why do they still not talk to you? You don’t act like that anymore.”
“They don’t know- “
“They do know. They still don’t care.”
Gaelle almost fell out of her chair, aghast at his words.
“W-what?”
“They. Don’t. Care. They revel in your pain.”
“You are full of lies.”
The old man suddenly had her pinned against the wall with one hand tight around her neck. All traces of exhaustion were gone. He was wild, powerful, like a feral

She immediately saw that it wasn’t an old man but in fact a young girl. She was dressed in the same clothes as Gaelle was, and was the exact same height. Her looks were identical.
Her head hung towards the floor and she refused to make eye contact.
“Anxiety?”
She looked up.
Gaelle stepped back and nearly fell. The eyes that she saw were nothing more than empty white orbs.
Anxiety was blind.
And the face that she saw was her own.

Your story reminds me so much of a poem I wrote last year :)))
Happiness is temporary, Dreams fade away
Anxiety leads friends out the door when you're begging someone to stay
Life has a taste for tragedy; it’s sold by the pound
So feel what you want and love who you want
And watch it burn to the ground

Throughout the novel, Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, the author depicts underlying literary elements to help enhance the reader’s understanding of dissimilar characters. During the novel, two main characters are followed in their search for their American Dream. Lennie, who is portrayed as powerful, unintelligent man, is only sought after as a good workman. George, who is depicted as Lennie’s companion and caretaker, sometimes is seen as burdened by Lennie’s unintelligible demand. George is deemed morally responsible for Lennie’s actions, which continually are not very excusable ones.…

The exaggerated nod reminded Booker of a Bobblehead doll, the comparison bringing a smile to his lips. When he stood up, he was surprised to find his legs were shaking, and it took a moment for him to steady himself. Tom’s leap of faith had suddenly made him jittery, the unexpected onset of nerves wiping the grin from his face. It was as though his whole life had led to this one moment in time, and he stared down at his lover, his pupils dilated, the jet-black voids all but obscuring the brown irises. But when two dark, trusting eyes met his gaze, an aura of calm washed over him, and his smile returned.…

Anxiety is something I have always been accustomed to, and even some of my earliest memories involve that anxious, nerve stricken feeling in the pit of my stomach. I was always the shy kid in the class, something to grow out of once I grew older, except that was not the case at all. Anxiety and I have grown closer over the years, so much so, that I developed several crippling anxiety disorders that shaped my life and how I lived it. It came on during my high school years and it affected my school work, my home life, and just about every instance in between. I would wake up every morning filled with anxiety dreading the day ahead of me, and waiting for it all to be over.…
