Glasses click together after they are filled with an exquisite wine. Entrees are served freshly in the middle of the table. All the guests are eager for dessert. But what is important in a dinner? Gabrielle Hamilton expresses her opinions in the article “The Art of the Dinner Table.” She says that it is more about the conversation which falls from proper etiquette. A dinner is not successful unless it in contains all the components. The article starts out explaining how dinners went when she first started preparing them. In the ninth grade, she saved her money to buy the food. Not only did she prepare the food, but she set up the table with creative arrangements. She did things most people do not think about when hosting a dinner. She treated the people at the table like guests. Not just her friends or relatives. She poured drinks, served food, and catered to their every need. The more she hosted, the more she learned. Each dinner was a unique experience that taught her how to make the next better. Therefore, after a while of trial and error she felt that her arduous work paid off. The visitants often experienced things as well. They had to learn the proper manners when attending a dinner. She is biased in her own opinions about how they should be organized. She thinks it is vital to treat her guests how she would like to be treated if the roles were reversed. She is very understanding that some people do not know as much as she knows, and they must learn. Hamilton must adapt with the time as it goes by. With new experiences comes new problems and she must always be ready to solve those problems. This article shows how some things are more important than others, but those are not the most important things. In conclusion, having someone to pour wine to is better than actually pouring the
