In this modernized world, we live in, today’s domesticated animals and plants are the results of selective breeding programs. Therefore, these organisms have been ‘genetically improved’ for traits such as to produce teacup sized dogs or even resistance to disease and insects (Daempfle, 2016). A Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) is a microorganism, plant, or animal that has been genetically modified using the gene technologies of molecular biology. In doing so, society would be less apt to reject of distort scientific information in favor of more intuitive beliefs. Moreover, society should focus on transmitting factual information that is deemed not persuasive and non-subjective in nature.
Overall, I believe this opposition against the use of GMOs has no foundation and that no overwhelming response supports evidence linking to major downfalls of GMO use.
