As we have read, all ten Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies are vital to the nursing profession. Our assigned reading, Massachusetts Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies, explained that after much research and data collection this set of core competencies were selected because they embody all that the nurse should be. They provide a basis of “fundamental knowledge and skills that allows a nurse to provide safe, effective care to a patient.” (Hood, 6). The competencies are equally important and will often overlap in the nursing practice (mass. Edu p5, para 2).

The introduction of the Electronic Medical Record has probably had the most impact on nurses individually. It has changed the way we chart, the way we communicate, and has given patients an opportunity to see their medical records at the click of a button. The EMR has made assessments and testing results readily available to the entire healthcare team. Continued advancements in technology will bring with it more testing options, treatments, and opportunities for members of the healthcare team to share knowledge and
