Myopia is an eye disease that elongates the eyeball and affects the way light reflects off of the eye making it difficult to focus on objects that are further away from the viewer. This is a very common refractive error all around the world. According to a study by the National Eye Institute , Myopia was something that affected 25% of the US population from 1971-72, however, this number grew to 41.6% from 1999-2004. Recent studies suggest that the cause for the rise in Myopia could be the fact that children are spending less time outside. This could probably even go deeper to children spending too much time on electronic devices and the amount of blue light that they emit. Normally, Myopia is nothing more than just a minor inconvenience to those that have it, but sometimes it can be so severe that it is considered a degenerative condition and is also the leading cause of legal blindness.
