Defining what American culture is today can be somewhat difficult in today’s society. American culture is always fluctuating. The United States has traditionally been referred to as a "melting pot," welcoming people from many different countries, and hoping to find a better means of life. However, others refer it to as a “Salad”; the ingredients are there, but not everything mixes well. America is full of rich culture, but not every person living in America understands cultures besides their own.…

Friends is a show that seems to transcend time. Even today it is one of the most re-watched TV shows out there and there is a good reason for that. With amazing writing, smart direction, and a fantastic cast from day one, Friends can easily be described as one of the best sitcoms of all time. It ran 10 seasons, running from 1994-2004. The plot was simple; six New York City friends, who live in the same apartment complex, are trying to navigate through their twenties.…

For decades America has been a refuge for those hoping to escape their country or start a new life. They advertised the nation as the land of opportunity and a melting pot for those seeking to come to America and find a new life. They welcomed immigrants by sharing their language, culture, and way of life. Nonetheless, not everyone was eager to forsake their culture and traditions. Generally, if immigrants do not assimilate, they continue their traditions, blend their original traditions with the new one, or create an all new culture.…

The TV series I will be speaking of that shows most of the sociological concepts is the show “Friends”. This show shows most of the sociological concepts that we have learned in class for example the show has groups and organizations, deviance, sex and gender, and socialization/social interaction. To give brief summary of what the show is about is literally about 6 friends and their everyday lives dealing with their everyday struggles and different experiences. In the show the 6 friends names are Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, and Joey, each of them or at least most of them are great examples to some of the sociological concepts we have learned this semester. Through the mid 1940s and the 1960s, many Americans were quite confident in their country with the majority of the population having a healthy lifestyle. During these decades, the U.S. made many achievements, one of them being NASA’s successful moon landing on July 20, 1969. The accomplishment of this trip caused many Americans to feel relieved knowing that they had beat the Soviet Union to the moon. Not only were Americans satisfied with their country’s status, but also many American families were financially stable and able to start a large family, causing the average birth rate per 1,000 people to be 24.38 in 1954. However, by the start of the 1970s, many Americans lost hope in their country as many problems began to occur, such as other foreign countries catching up and eventually upstaging America financially .…

Sitcoms Then and Now “I’ll be there for you! ‘ Cause you’re there for me too!” The opening song to Friends is the perfect beginning to the show. Friends, which was created in 1994, carries the viewer through the roller-coaster lives of 6 friends living in New York, who no matter what, are always there for each other. This is a show much more preferable to the raunchy sitcom How I Met Your Mother because it has a better theme, focal setting, and content.…

I will talk about American culture, even though there are many sub-cultures in the American culture I will try to narrow it down.
