She lived her life wearing casts and dealing with additional pain her botched surgeries left. “I paint myself because I’m so often alone and because I am the subject I know best,” said Frida. Frida’s work was never really taken seriously until after her death. She passed away at the age of 47. The believed causes were of a pulmonary embolism, but others speculate it may have been a suicide.
