The Friar tries to sort out Romeo and Juliet’s problems for them when he creates his “plan” to get the two back together after Romeo’s banishment. He tells Romeo and Juliet two different versions of his plan, “Or by the break of day disguised from hence: / Sojourn in Mantua; I'll find out your man” (3.3.168-169). Here, Friar Lawrence is telling Romeo he will send a servant of his to tell him news of Juliet, but later he tells Juliet he will send a Friar. This creates miscommunication because a servant of Romeo’s comes to tell him news of Juliet, but not the right news because he was not sent by the Friar, causing Romeo to commit suicide. This leads to Romeo not getting the Friar’s letter, sent to him by Friar John. Friar John is not allowed into Mantua because he is with a barefoot priest, and guards fear the two may carry the plague. Friar John tells Friar Laurence that he could not get Romeo his letter, “I could not send it [the letter] - here it is again - / Nor get a messenger to bring it there” (5.2.14-15). Friar John could not bring the letter with the news of “the plan” to Romeo, and receive false news about Juliet’s death. The Friar’s miscommunication also leads to Romeo being unaware that Juliet is not actually dead, and buying poison. Romeo goes to an apothecary in Mantua to buy poison from an apothecary, “Let me have a dram of poison, such soon-speeding gear”(5.1.59-60). Romeo intends on killing himself when he has been told Juliet is dead, and goes to do so. Romeo’s choice creates even more chaos with the death of Paris and Juliet. The Friar tries to solve Romeo and Juliet’s problems for them by creating his plan, but instead leads to miscommunication with Romeo and the deaths of Paris, Juliet, and
