The amount of reading required and the length of the research papers they must write in college are going to increase. Students in high schools often complete more assignments than college students; however, it is the type of workload that will change. The biggest changes will be reading and preparing for class because many students recall not having to complete any substantial amount of reading for classes in high school and being able to study before the test and do well essentially built on memorization. The transformation in college is that you will have homework every day, regardless if any were assigned; often you still have necessary readings which must be completed. Growing up, it’s easy to place blame on parents, teachers, or siblings in order to psychologically make ourselves feel better about our own fault. Typically, both failures and successes should be accredited to each person individually. In college, personal responsibility is a wakeup call, as no one will be there to make sure you make it to your classes. The professor is under no obligation to continue to remind students or inform them of information which has already been presented, therefore responsibility is essential and students are expected to follow their syllabus deadlines and turn in their research papers on time.
