They were essentially used as wall art. These were called “frescoes” and tended to be portrayed as landscape or mythological scenes, tended to be bold in colour. Landscape scenes were used in the place of a main bay window to the outside. They were also used to expand their garden onto the perimeter walls, enlarging and giving more depth to the garden area. Paintings were done to also to show off inanimate objects, such as flowers, food, and dead animals (Kamm, 2009a). Art does not have to have a purpose or a reason in our lives. It can just be. But, even just "being", we can be drawn to it, just for its appearance. Is its purpose to be present for our viewing pleasure? Sure, both in ancient and modern times. We do react to art, for whatever reason, colour, style, drama, artist, etc. Both are visual representations of "something," stories, life, beauty, a visual language ... Art is created to evoke a response, good or bad. However, I admit to not requiring the need to breakdown art and ask why. I simply like art for my viewing
