It authorized citizenship, guaranteed equal protection and extended bill of rights to all the states. The whites especially the southern whites felt threatened by the blacks and wanted to restore the southern hierarchy, The Mississippi Black Codes were written by the Mississippi state government in 1865 as a legislative movement. They were laws passed by Southern states in 1865 and 1866, after the Civil War. These laws had the intent and the effect of restricting African Americans' freedom, and of compelling them to work in a labor economy based on low wages or debt. The black codes prohibited the freedmen from working in other form of labor that does not include farm work, it also made it legal for black people to handle weapons and firearms. Black children could be seized from their families and forced to work in fields, black men who were unable to find labor could be ailed and sold to planters as farm hands.
